TECHNIQUEST, CARDIFF

  Mobility Camp is the annual volunteer-run transport unconference. It brings together transport planners, modellers, engineers, technologists, social activists, academics and others interested in discussing and coming up with solutions to ongoing challenges in the transport sector. 

  As transport professionals, we have a lot of issues to tackle. From reducing carbon emissions to making the world a more just place. There is an ever-decreasing amount of time for us to take action, and taking that action may mean that the rules by which we do things are re-written.

There is no shortage of rules in the transport sector, such as business cases for more infrastructure or best practice. Some rules are unwritten and are just ‘how things are done.’ Some are even interpreted in a certain way that has established behaviour that is detrimental to society, such as focussing on the economic benefits above over considerations. At this year’s Camp, we will explore what rules are holding us back from achieving the change that we need, and importantly how we can change or reinterpret them.

  At an unconference, only the theme and rooms are set up by the organisers. The sessions are suggested and decided upon by attendees on the day. It provides everyone with the opportunity to shape the event, so be prepared to get involved and have some fun!   

 Attending Mobility Camp will offer you unique opportunities to learn, share knowledge, connect with like-minded individuals, and actively contribute to one of the most challenging yet crucial conversations in the transport sector. 

“My first-time attending transport planning camp was as a student and that made me want to join the organizing team this year. As a student often it is difficult to interact with professionals and get your ideas out there. Attending transport planning camp helped me present my views and ideas on various topics to professionals at all levels and made me understand what is ambitious as a young professional as to what is a physically viable goal at industry standards of working. It was a really fun day where I was able to speak freely without the fear of being judged for saying the wrong things and learned from a lot of different people in different sectors of the transport industry.
